Financial literacy education

This initiative is part of a larger nationwide effort to train 200,000 youth across Uganda in practical business skills across various sectors, including agribusiness, food processing, value addition, handcrafts, technology, and performing arts.

In response to the urgent need to equip youth and women with employable skills and empower them to become self-reliant entrepreneurs, Young Agro-Green Africa Network (YAGANET), with the support of The Innovation Village and funding from the MasterCard Foundation, is implementing the Empowering Africa’s Youth through Innovation and Skills Development project in Kasese and the broader Rwenzori sub-region.

This initiative is part of a larger nationwide effort to train 200,000 youth across Uganda in practical business skills across various sectors, including agribusiness, food processing, value addition, handcrafts, technology, and performing arts. By fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, the project aims to provide youth with the tools and knowledge they need to start their own businesses, enhancing their employability in an increasingly competitive job market.

Our Approach

YAGANET’s role in this project is to deliver hands-on skills training to youth and young mothers in the districts of the Rwenzori sub-region. The Project focus skilling areas include:

  • Agribusiness: Empowering participants with sustainable farming techniques and business acumen to create climate-resilient agricultural enterprises that include among other, apiary, animal feeds, poultry keeping, Kitchen gardening, briquette’s, etc.
  • Art and Handcrafts: Providing training in traditional and contemporary crafts e.g. shoes making and weaving of all kinds of products, enabling participants to produce marketable handmade products.
  • Food Processing: Teaching practical skills in processing and value addition, helping participants to create profitable food products such all kinds of bakery and cookery.
  • Soap Making: Offering workshops on the production of high-quality soap, with an emphasis on using locally sourced materials and tarping local and regional markets.

Through this project, YAGANET is enabling participants to establish climate-resilient businesses that contribute to their improved livelihoods and sustainable development in the region.
