Alchemy is an advanced form of Poisonmaking. After 25 purchases of Poisonmaking, a character is allowed to purchase Alchemy. Alchemy allows the character to read alchemical texts, and to understand the basics of creating alchemical substances. With a properly equipped laboratory, along with manual, the base parts, monetary amount, and necessary skill level, the character can create Alchemical items. Note that manuals may require tags other than Alchemy. These tags can be paid for with Alchemy tags, at 1.5 times cost. Alchemy items are treated in all ways as any other equipment the PC has, unless otherwise noted on the item.

For each purchase of this skill, a character gains a number of Alchemy tags. These tags may be expended in any combination on the tasks listed below or on other tasks at Plot Discretion.

The following are specific abilities granted by the Alchemy skill:

Copy Manual: This function allows the character to copy an existing manual. The character must pay a tag cost of Alchemy equal to that of the device being copied, however, the item’s monetary cost, the presence of a laboratory, and it’s cost in other skills, can be ignored. A payment of 1 gold/page is needed for the proper paper and ink, as well as basic protections against normal wear and tear. A manual has a minimum number of pages equal to the Alchemy tags needed to create the device x2.

Analyze Alchemy: After a ten-count of examination, a character may look at the tag for an item in his possession and determine if it was created through alchemy. He may also determine its function after a second ten-count. If the function of the item is known to the character, the character may then look at all information regarding the item, including its manual and other data, after a ten-count. Note that the character does not actually receive a manual from this skill, but receives the basic knowledge listed on it.

Create Alchemy: This function allows the character to create alchemical substances. The character must have the manual, all necessary parts and pieces, and pay all costs listed in said manual. Unless otherwise stated, all parts and pieces are expended in the creation of the item. Access to laboratory is also necessary for use of this ability. A character may create up to one alchemical substance per debriefing period.

Recipes:

Transmute to Gold
Tags Required: Alchemy x10, Poisonmaking x50
Additional Material Requirements:

  • Egg of a Roc (10 gp value)
  • Poison of a red lotus flower (5 gp value)
  • 5 gold pieces
  • Item to be transmuted

The classic alchemical ability, transmute to gold alchemically changes the item used into gold. Take the item’s value, add 15 gp, and that is the equivalent amount of gold created through this ability. For magic items, add a value equal to two times the number of tags it takes to cast the enchantments on the item, multiplied by a factor of how much time is left in it’s use:

1/ever- .5
X/day- X
1 day- .5
1 month- x1
6 months- x5

Dark Water Poison
Tags Required: Alchemy x12, Poisonmaking x30
Additional Material Requirements:

  • Powdered Nightshade Extract (8 gp)
  • 8 Doses of Trap Door Spider Poison (2 gp each)

Dark Water Poison is like a mixable Death Poison, operating as a mixable poison, doing "1000 Poison" damage to the target of the poison. However, if the target of the poison somehow survives the damage, they immediately take a “Poison Drain” effect. After this, they take a “Poison Smite” effect. After this, another "1000 Poison" damage is dealt to the target.

Iocaine Powder
Tags Required: Alchemy x8, Poisonmaking x40
Additional Material Requirements:

  • 6 Iocaine leaves (1 gp each)
  • Solvent Powder (2 gp)

Iocaine Powder is a mixable poison, with some unique features. The first is that it is not detectable as a poison once mixed with a drink. The second is its damage. Iocaine Powder does "1000 Poison" once imbibed, but this damage cannot be healed until the target has first been detoxified. The third is that while poisoned, regardless of their status, the person poisoned will seem to be in a state of True Death to all forms of detection. This combination has lead to many healers thinking that the target of Iocaine Powder has entered True Death when, in fact, they could be saved.

Lotus Extract
Tags Required: Alchemy x10, Poisonmaking x50
Additional Material Requirements:

  • 10 lotus flowers (1 gp each)
  • Solvent Powder (2 gp)
  • Root of an animated plant (4 gp)
  • 24 gallons of pure water

This creates one dose (4-8 oz.) of Lotus Extract, a much more pure form of the berzerking poisons. Once imbibed, a character who has taken Lotus Extract swings for "+5 Massive" until the end of the day, or until one of the following occurs: If the character who has imbibed the extract is hit with a detoxify, they immediately become dead. If the character becomes dead, not dying, the Lotus Extract loses its potency. If at debriefing the poison is still in the character, the character enters True Death. At any point, the character may swing once for 1000 massive, and immediately enter True Death.

Purchasing this skill multiple times results in multiple uses of the skill. For the first three purchases of this skill, the character receives one tag per level. If a character purchases at least four levels of this skill, he gains two uses per level of skill. For seven purchases, the character gains three tags per level. This pattern repeats until the character has purchased the skill at least thirteen levels of the skill, after which they gain five tags per level regardless of how many purchases of the skill have been made.
