Learning new Songs
To use a Song, you must continually chant the designated verbal along with any performance based somatics (if any) required. "Allies" are the Bard's designated Patrons. Bards may declare any number of persons "Neutral", which makes them unaffected by any Bardic Songs used by the Bard. Anyone not declared Neutral or Ally is considered an Enemy for the purposes of the rules. Any Allies or Enemies who are able to hear a song are affected by it if they are targeted by it. If the Bard stops chanting, takes damage, or is rendered incapable of in-play speech, the Effects of the Song end immediately unless otherwise designated by the Song's description.
A Bard can remember as many Songs on each tier as they have Song skills purchased. All Bards begin the game with one Song known for each Song skill they have purchased. Further Songs may be learned by another Bard, but a Bard can not learn more Songs than they have skills purchased. Therefore, if a Bard has 5 Apprentice Song skills and they already know 5 Songs, they must forget a Song in order to learn a different one.
A Bard may teach another Bard any Song they know. No Bard may teach more than one Song on each tier in a single day.
Patrons
Patrons are the Targets of Songs affecting Allies. A Bard may declare one Patron plus one for every 3 Character Levels (1 + Level/3) per Day. The Bardic class skill Extra Patron allows a Bard to declare more Patrons. This may be done during Debriefing or in-field as long as the Bard has Patron slots available.
Patrons must be verbally declared to the Target before taking effect. The reverse is also true: A Bard may drop a Patron, but doing so does not regain the Bard's Patron slot. Re-patroning the Target uses an additional Patron slot. Likewise, a Patron may willingly drop or "Resist" their Patron status, but must verbally declare it loud enough for the Bard to hear before taking effect.
