The Mage has the power to channel the raw force of elements against his foes. While not as physically powerful as the other classes he packs as much damage into a single concentrated shot as several warriors with their blades. Magic energy is so chaotic that it can rarely be used for anything other than destruction, and it is so powerful that a Mage can only use his powers a small number of times before becoming too exhausted to continue.
A Mage's studies require intense focus, so very few Mages have any skill in anything besides Magic itself. While originally seen as a shortcoming, it was quickly realized by most that most Mages simply don't NEED anything but the Magic itself. While it is nearly impossible for a Mage to travel alone for any length of time, his Magic makes him a formidable ally in any group.
Mages are generally the most studious of all adventurers, and along with the clerics of Orn are the most likely to go off in search of lost bits of Arcane knowledge. To most others, the Mages are seen as aloof, standoffish and irritable, but to those who can appreciate the work involved in being a Mage the attitude is understandable.
