The following is a list of all effects in the game. Any Effects which require a target to be specified must have the target stated at the end of the incant. If none is specified, then the target affected is at the victim’s choice (although it must be a valid target).

Detect Powers If you are under the effects of any mystic arts powers, state "Yes" in a loud, clear voice. If not, then declare "No" in a loud, clear voice. -
Discharge Item targeted needs to be recharged Recharged
Discord If living, take the Amount declared as damage. If undead, heal for double the Amount declared. -
Dispel {type} End all effects of {type}. -

Ice If Flame elemental, take double the amount declared in damage. If Ice elemental, take double the amount declared in healing. If neither, take the amount declared in damage. -
Maim {Target} Lose the use of targetted Limb (Arm or Leg) Debriefing or receive a Dispel
Net {Target} If a foot/leg is targetted, that limb is bound to the ground, immovable. If an arm/hand is targeted, that limb is bound to your side and cannot be used for IP skills. If "Body" is targetted, you are entirely unmovable and still conscious, using no IP skills that require movement. Debriefing or receive a Dispel
Raise {X} Stop reclone count. Become mindless undead with X HP, obeying the commands of the one who Raised you. Dropped below 1 HP, and start your reclone count anew.
Revive {X} Dispels all effects on the target with a duration of "debriefing" or less, unless otherwise stated in the effect. Target regains X HP. This effect may only be used on a dead, dying or unconscious target. -
Smite The next you are hit with damage, immediately drop to -1. Used
Stun Do not move move feet (walking, running, jumping), do not use skills except to block with weapons, or Gambler's Luck. 5 count
Weaken {X} Subtract {X} points from your melee or ranged weapon damage call. If the attack would normally be reduced below one, change the flavor to "Pummel". Debriefing or recieve a Dispel
Wind If Earth elemental, take double the amount declared in damage. If Wind elemental, take double the amount declared in healing. If neither, take the amount declared in damage. -

Unless stated otherwise in either this list or the specific power or item's description or Tag the following rules apply:

  • In any case where an effect which has multiple possible "targets" on a Target is used, the Target may decide which of the available targets to apply the effect to. For example, if the "Net" power is used and a limb is not specified, the Target may choose which limb is affected.
  • The Target may not choose to apply an Effect to a target that has already been affected. For example, if the Target's left leg was already under a "Net" Effect, the Target could not apply further Nets to that limb and would have to instead choose a different limb. However, if the target was specifically "leg" or "left leg", the Target would not have to choose to target an arm if both legs were already affected.
  • Any Item targeted by an Effect follows similar guidelines to the above, with the following provisions:
  • As with the above, the Target determines which item is targeted by the Effect. If a hand-held item is considered a possible target, it must be targeted before an item in a pack or on a belt. Items that are not visible to the person using the Effect are not considered valid targets unless the item or skill granting it designates otherwise. Similar to limb attacks, a Target must choose an item that is not already under the Effect being used whenever possible.

Banish: This effect is used to send a Dimensional being back to its Plane of origin, keeping it out of the current Plane for up to 24 hours. As a general rule, this effect can not be used on a non-Dimensional creature except at Plot discretion.

Break: This effect is used to render an item useless. Broken items can usually be repaired by someone with the appropriate skill, but will not automatically repair themselves at debriefing unless the Item Tag specifically states otherwise. It should be noted that a broken item is usually not destroyed, simply rendered useless for any practical purpose. Broken items can still be easily identified as their original item by anyone who looks, although it is obvious that the item has been rendered useless.

Detect {type}: This Effect is used to determine whether something (or someone) is of a given type, such as Undead. Target must declare "Yes" or "No" in a clear voice to the person who used the Effect. If the Target wishes, they may call a Hold and give the answer privately to the person who used the Effect, as the Effect is not immediately apparent to anyone other than the user.

Detect Powers: This Effect is identical to Detect: {type} except that it identifies whether or not any Mystic power is currently in effect on the target. Note that the exact power is not determinable by this Effect except by Plot discretion.

Disarm: This Effect causes the Target to drop the target item for five seconds. Note that no method of conventionally binding the item to the body can prevent the item from being removed from the body. In the case of items that are unable to be removed from the body, the target item becomes unusable for five seconds. Also, some types of weaponry, such as body weaponry, is not an "item" per se and thus may not be targeted by a Disarm.

Discharge: This effect removes the "charge" on the target Item, requiring it to be recharged before it may be used. Ranged weapons targeted in this manner are considered to have "lost" their ammo (even if the weapon uses physical projectiles, like archery) until recharged. This Effect also effects tech items, such as stun enhancements, chemloaders, and even batteries in things such as computers, cameras and PDAs.

Discord: Discord Effects destroy the living tissue of the Target by disrupting the natural vibrations and patterns of the body. Typically a Discord attack cannot affect any unliving creature, although it will be listed on the NPC card if this is the case. Against any Undead creature Discord heals for double the Amount instead of causing damage. Any other character takes damage as normal. Note also that Discord Effects also typically cause other damage to the person using them, particularly in the case of Mystic Powers.

Dispel {type}: Ends all Effects of {type} on the target. {Type} can be a Flavor, Effect or combination of the two. Some items or skills allow for Effects that are unable to be Dispelled, if this is true the item or skill will designate such on its description or Item Tag. Dispel does not heal any Hit Point damage that was incurred when the Effect was placed on the target.

Drain: This Effect disables the Target by removing their ability to use any Skills, including weapon skills for purposes of blocking attacks. This Effect does not reduce the effectiveness of Armor nor does it prevent a character from using an item that requires no Skills in order to use. Effects already in play on the Character, such as Shields and Rebounds, are still in place and are triggered normally until used up or Dispelled.

Earth: This Effect channels raw elemental stone into the target, causing double damage to creatures aligned to the element of Air. This Effect will also heal creatures aligned to Earth for double the Amount of the attack. Any other creature or character takes damage as normal.

Endurance: This Effect allows a character a second chance at life if knocked unconscious or killed. The next time you are hit hard enough to go below one hit point, stay at 1 hit point instead.

Fire: This Effect channels raw elemental flame into the target, causing double damage to creatures aligned to the element of Ice. This Effect will also heal creatures aligned to Fire for double the Amount of the attack. Any other creature or character takes damage as normal.

Harmonics: Unlike most other Effects, Harmonics is used to heal injured characters by realigning the rhythm of the body, healing for the Amount of the Damage Call. Harmonics typically only affects living creatures, although if a character is unaffected it will be indicated on their character card. Due to their discordant nature, Harmonics attacks do double damage against Undead creatures.

Ice: This Effect channels raw elemental ice into the target, causing double damage to creatures aligned to the element of Flame. This Effect will also heal creatures aligned to Ice for double the Amount of the attack. Any other creature or character takes damage as normal.

Maim {Target}: This Effect causes severe damage to the target limb, making it unusable until it is healed. Arms that become Maimed are unable to be used for Skills, including the use of Weapons for combat or even blocking. Maiming a mouth or face causes the target to be unable to speak, although it can still see and hear. Face weaponry (such as bite attacks) can be disabled by maim face/mouth. "Maim: Full" causes the entire body to be disabled, preventing even speech and disrupting any skills that require movement.

Net {Target}: This Effect binds the target limb to the body, making it unusable until it is released. If a leg is targeted, the limb is bound to the ground and is immovable. Any arms placed under a Net effect must be held down to the side and becomes unusable for any IP skills, including blocking even if a shield is in hand when the Net takes effect. Netting a Mouth or Face temporarily removes the Target's ability to speak or use "bite" attacks (if ordinarily able to do so). "Net: Full" causes the body to be completely ensnared, making the Target completely unmovable but still conscious. A target hit by a "Net: Full" is also unable to speak or use any Skills, although precasts and items with defenses continue to operate as normal.

Raise {X}: This Effect may only target a dead body. Target becomes a mindless zombie under the control of the person who called the damage. Zombie has X HP and swings for "2 basic" unless in possession of an item which alters the damage. If disarmed, zombies may use "claws" - non-disarmable short weapons that do two points of damage. Once dropped below one HP, the Target "dies" and is returned to a normal dead body. If the target was still able to be revived prior to being Raised, they are able to be revived after being returned to normal. If the Target was already past the point of being revived, they are still unable to be revived after the zombie is killed.

Revive {X}: This effect may only target a dead or dying body. Target is brought up to {X} HP. Any Maimed limbs are restored on the target.

Smite: This Effect critically injures a Target, causing it to drop to -1 the next time it is hit with damage. While under this Effect, skills still continue to function normally. Note also that any effect which restores Hit Points does not count as damage for purposes of this Effect. This includes elemental (Earth, Flame, Ice and Wind) Effects on creatures of their respective elements, as well as Discord Effects on Undead. Harmonics Effects on an Undead creature are still considered damage and will cause the Undead to drop to -1 as normal.

Stun: Target must take a knee for a five count and is unable to move their feet for the duration of the effect. No skills may be used by the Target except for the ability to block with weapons or shields or Gambler's luck.

Weaken: This Effect atrophies the muscles of the Target, causing it to do three less points of damage on every weapon attack until either Debriefing or the Effect is removed. No attack can be reduced to less than zero points of damage, but if an attack would normally have been reduced below 0, the flavor is changed to "pummel" instead. Multiple Weakens may be "stacked" on a Target, causing the target to lose even more damage from their attacks.

Wind: This Effect channels raw elemental air into the target, causing double damage to creatures aligned to the element of Earth. This Effect will also heal creatures aligned to Wind for double the Amount of the attack. Any other creature or character takes damage as normal.
